Dr Chiam is a local Sabahan Doctor. He graduated from Trinity College, University of Dublin Ireland in 1996. From 2000 till 2005, he worked in the Department of Internal Medicine, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kota Kinabalu under the mentorship of Datuk Dr Jayaram Menon. The Department of Internal Medicine, Queen Elizabeth provide a huge range of medical services including acute medicine, infectious disease, cardiology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, respiratory medicine, neurology, geriatric medicine, and etc. After being conferred membership with the Royal College of Physician in 2004, Dr Chiam continued his postgraduate training in Singapore. From 2005 to 2009, he underwent training in the haematology under the mentorship of Dr Ponnudurai Kuperan, Head of Department of Laboratory Medicine and Haematology Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He worked in both Tan Tock Seng Hospital and National University Hospital Singapore. The haematology service cover a wide range of haematological disorder such as anaemias, thalassemias, autoimmune thrombocytopenia, lymphomas, myelomas and leukemias. He completed his haematology training in 2009. Worked as an Associate Consultant Haematologist from 2009 to 2011. He returned to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in 2011 as one of the State Haematologist of Sabah.
